- Pre-Pick
Specify this to shorten the scanning time when scanning more than one document.
"Pre-pick" refers to feeding the next document into the ADF before ejecting the current document being scanned.
- Enable
The factory default setting is set to on.
TIPIf you cancel in the middle of scanning while pre-pick is enabled, you have to remove the pre-picked document, then load the document again.
It can also be configured in the scanner driver or the Software Operation Panel.
Note that priority is given to the scanner driver setting.
- [Default] button
Resets the pre-pick mode settings to the factory default.
- Pick Speed
Set the timing at which document feeding into the scanner is started.
When overlapped documents or paper jams occur frequently, delaying the timing of document feeding may improve the performance.
This setting is effective when you scan thin paper.
- Pick Speed
Set the timing at which document feeding into the scanner is started.
- Normal
This is the factory default setting.
- Slow
The timing at which document feeding is started is slower than [Normal].
ATTENTIONThe total time for scanning is longer because the start timing of document feeding is delayed.
- [Default] button
Resets the pick speed settings to the factory default.
TIPWhen Manual Single Mode is used, [Pick Speed] is disabled.
- Thin Paper Mode
Configure this setting to lower the pick roller unit and prevent thin paper from jamming.

TIPWhen Manual Single Mode is used, [Thin Paper Mode] is disabled.
- Manual Feeding
Specify this to continue loading and scanning documents repeatedly after starting scanning.
To configure the scanner to wait for a document to be loaded onto the hopper for a specified waiting time after scanning is started or document feeding is complete, specify the waiting time.
This enables continuous scanning as long as you load a document within the specified waiting time.
If the specified waiting time is exceeded, the scan is finished automatically.
- Continuous Feed Mode
Set whether to enable the Manual Continuous Mode.
Set [Continuous Feed Mode] to on to scan more than one document in succession manually.
The factory default setting is set to off.
- Timeout seconds
Specify the time period until which the scanner confirms that no documents are loaded on the hopper (the interval between the last scan and the detection of whether the next document is loaded or not).
The factory default setting is "10".
- [Default] button
Restores the manual feeding settings to the factory default.
TIPWhen scanning documents manually, [Manual - Continuous] or [Manual - Single] is displayed for the feed mode on the touch screen.
For details about scanning documents manually, refer to Feeding Documents Manually.
When Manual Single Mode is used, the scanner will wait for documents to be loaded until the specified timeout time elapses regardless of the setting for [Continuous Feed Mode].
You can end the scan immediately by pressing the [Pause] button on the touch screen, lifting up the pick roller unit, or bringing it back down to its original position while the scanner is waiting for documents to be loaded.
- Automatic Skew Correction [fi-8950/fi-8930]
Configure this setting to correct the orientation of a skewed document and feed the document straight.
- Enable
The factory default setting is set to on.
- Correction level
Specify the correction level.
This can be specified when [Enable] is set to on.
- Normal
This is the factory default setting.
- High
Document skewing can be corrected more than with [Normal].
ATTENTIONFor documents including thin paper, disable [Automatic Skew Correction] to prevent documents from being damaged.
If the rollers are dirty, automatic skew correction may be less efficient.
If automatic skew correction becomes less efficient, clean the rollers.
For details, refer to Daily Care.
When [Automatic Skew Correction] is enabled, scanning speed may be reduced.
TIP[Automatic Skew Correction] is disabled in the following cases:
When Manual Single Mode is used
When [Thin Paper Mode] is enabled
When [Pick Speed] is set to [Slow]
This setting can also be configured in the scanner driver or the Software Operation Panel.
Note that priority is given to the scanner driver setting.
- [Default] button
Restore the automatic skew correction settings to the factory default.

-
- Prioritize the touch screen settings
Prioritizes the paper protection settings on the touch screen.
- Enable
Although there is no factory default setting, it is set to off when you turn on the power.
- Feeding Accuracy
Configure the settings to detect warped documents caused by a feeding error.
Paper jams due to feeding errors could damage or tear valuable documents.
Detecting a feeding error and stopping the scan can prevent damage to documents.
This function is effective when you scan documents which are difficult to feed such as thin paper documents.
- Enable
The factory default setting is set to on.
- Sensitivity
This can be specified when [Enable] is set to on for [Feeding Accuracy].
- Low
Decreases the sensitivity level for detecting warped documents.

Specify this to detect warped documents even when they are only slightly deformed.
- Detection Range
This can be specified when [Enable] is set to on for [Feeding Accuracy].
- Normal
Detects warped documents with the optimum range.
This is the factory default setting.
- Large
Widens the range for detecting warped documents.
Specify this to detect warped documents over a wide range.
- [Default] button
Restore the paper protection settings to the factory default.
ATTENTIONNote that the paper protection function is to prevent damages to documents, but the protection of all documents is not guaranteed.
When you use the paper protection function, make sure to load the documents with their top edges aligned and so that there is no space between the hopper side guides and the document (especially for a mixed batch of documents with different lengths).
If the top edges are not aligned properly, or if there is a space between the hopper side guides and the document, the scan may stop even when the documents are being fed correctly.
TIPWhen [Paper Protection] is enabled, in the following cases, the scan may stop even when the documents are being fed correctly.
If you scan a wrinkled document
If you scan a document that is not square or rectangular
If you scan a document that has a dark background
If you scan a document that has text or patterned background printed close to the edge
If a document is fed skewed.
In such cases, you can disable paper protection for the protected document to be rescanned only.
For details, refer to Disabling Paper Protection.
If the paper protection function stops scans frequently, take measures according to Paper Damage Prevention Is Set Off Frequently.
When Thin Paper Mode is enabled, it is recommended that you set the sensitivity level to [High].
When Manual Single Mode is used, [Paper Protection] is disabled.
This setting can also be configured in the scanner driver or the Software Operation Panel.
Note that priority is given to the scanner driver setting.
When [Prioritize the touch screen settings] is enabled on the operator panel, priority is given in the following order.
[Paper protection] in the scanner driver
