Connecting the Scanner via a Wired LAN (When Obtaining an IP Address Automatically)

This section explains about the setup procedure for you to connect the scanner to a network device via a wired LAN and automatically obtain an IP address for the scanner from the DHCP server.

For the procedure to unpack the scanner, refer to Getting Started.

ATTENTION

If an old version of the software is installed, uninstall it first.

For the procedure to uninstall the software, refer to Uninstalling the Software.

HINT

The factory default setting for obtaining an IP address for the scanner is set to obtain the IP address automatically.

  1. Turn on the computer and log onto Windows as a user with administrator privileges.
  2. Insert the Setup DVD-ROM into the DVD drive.

    The [fi Series Setup] window appears.

    HINT

    If the [fi Series Setup] window does not appear, double-click "Setup.exe" in the Setup DVD-ROM via [File Explorer] or [Computer].

  3. Click the scanner model name to be used (if the window for selecting a model name is displayed).
  4. Select either [Installation (Recommended)] or [Installation (Custom)].

    • For [Installation (Recommended)]

      Select [Installation (Recommended)] to install all the software required to operate the scanner.

      1. Click the [Installation (Recommended)] button.

      2. In the window to select an installation method, select your desired installation method.

        You can choose whether to download and install the latest software or install the software from the Setup DVD-ROM.

      3. Install the software by following the instructions displayed in the window.

        The [How to Connect the Scanner] window appears when the installation of the software is complete.

      HINT

      When [Installation (Recommended)] is selected, the following software is installed:

      • PaperStream IP (TWAIN)

      • Network Setup Tool for fi Series

      • Software Operation Panel

      • Error Recovery Guide

      • PaperStream ClickScan

      • PaperStream Capture

      • Manuals

      • fi Series Online Update

    • For [Installation (Custom)]

      Select [Installation (Custom)] to select and install the software that you need.

      1. Click the [Installation (Custom)] button.

      2. In the window to select an installation method, select your desired installation method.

        You can choose whether to download and install the latest software or install the software from the Setup DVD-ROM.

      3. Select the check boxes for the software to be installed and click the [Next] button.

      4. Install the software by following the instructions displayed in the window.

        The [How to Connect the Scanner] window appears when the installation of the software is complete.

  5. Select [Network].

  6. Connect the scanner to the computer as follows.
    Connecting a LAN Cable
    1. Connect the computer to a network device via a wired LAN or Wi-Fi (1).

      The procedure below shows an example of connecting the computer to a network device via a wired LAN.

      For details about how to connect the computer to the network, refer to your computer manual.

    2. Connect the scanner to the network device via a wired LAN (2).
    3. Connect the power cable to the scanner and the AC outlet (3,4).
    4. Turn on the scanner.

      For details, refer to How to Turn the Power ON.

    5. When the warranty information appears on the touch screen, confirm the displayed information and press the [OK] button.
      HINT

      The factory default setting of the display language for the touch screen is English.

      The display language can be changed in the screen that appears via the following procedure:

      Settings → [Display language]

  7. Click the [Select a Scanner] button in the [How to Connect the Scanner] window.

    The [Scanner Selection Tool] window appears.

  8. In the scanner list, select the check box for the scanner.

    For details about Scanner Selection Tool, refer to the Network Setup Tool for fi Series Help.

    HINT

    The scanner name and IP address can be checked in the screen that appears via the following procedure:

    Settings → [Scanner Information] → [Network]

  9. Click the [OK] button to close the [Scanner Selection Tool] window.
  10. Click the [Exit] button in the [fi Series Setup] window.
  11. Check whether the scanner is ready to start scanning.

  • If Scanner Selection Tool does not start up, refer to Starting Up Scanner Selection Tool, and start it up.

  • Network settings for the scanner can also be configured in fi Series Network Settings or IP Address Setting Tool.
