Operational Procedure [fi-8150/fi-8250/fi-8150U/fi-8250U]

  1. When overlapped documents are detected, "J" and "2" are displayed alternately on the Function Number Display.
  2. Follow each instruction below depending on the operation mode that is selected.
    • Standard mode/Manual mode

Scanning will stop immediately when overlapped documents are detected. Either press the [Send to] button to eject the document from the paper path, or open the ADF to remove the document. Then load the overlapped documents back in the ADF paper chute (feeder).

For more details about opening the ADF, refer to How to Open the ADF.

When the ADF is open, it might close accidentally. Be careful not to get your fingers caught.

After removing the documents while the ADF is open, close the ADF.

For more details about closing the ADF, refer to How to Close the ADF.

Be careful not to get your fingers caught when closing the ADF.

      ATTENTION

Confirm that the ADF is closed properly. Otherwise, documents may not be fed into the ADF.

Note that if the setting for stopping the scan to check images is set to on in the scanner driver, scanning will stop after overlapped documents are ejected so press the [Send to] button and load the overlapped documents back in the ADF paper chute (feeder).

    • Auto mode 1/Auto mode 2

Scanning will stop after overlapped documents are ejected so press the [Send to] button and load the overlapped documents back in the ADF paper chute (feeder).

  3. When documents are ejected, the function number flashes on the Function Number Display.
  4. Operate the scanner as follows, and restart scanning.

Note that the function number flashing speed switches between [slower] [faster] every time you press the [Function] button.

What the [slower] and [faster] statuses indicate for the function number flashing speed is described below.

    • What the [slower] status indicates

Detecting a multifeed for the next document is enabled. Or, memorizing an overlap pattern is disabled.

    • What the [faster] status indicates

Detecting a multifeed for the next document is disabled. Or, memorizing an overlap pattern is enabled.

Make sure that the function number is flashing in the [faster] status and press the [Scan/Stop] button or start scanning from the computer.

When the function number is flashing in the [faster] status, the scanner operates in each mode as follows:

    ATTENTION

When switching the flashing speed between [slower] [faster] by pressing the [Function] button, do not hold down the button for five seconds or more.

Doing so may erase the memorized overlap patterns.

    • Standard mode/Manual mode (Bypass by front panel button)

The scanner scans the next sheet without detecting overlapped documents, and from the second sheet onwards, detects overlapped documents based on the setting configured in the scanner driver or on the Software Operation Panel.

    • Auto mode 1 (Bypass by combination of length and position)

The scanner memorizes the length and location of the paper attachment that was detected as overlapped documents, and continues scanning.

When a paper attachment of a similar pattern is detected, the scanner does not detect overlapped documents automatically. (*1)(*2)

    • Auto mode 2 (Bypass by length)

The scanner memorizes the length of the longest paper attachment that was detected as overlapped documents, and continues scanning.

When a paper attachment of the same length or shorter is detected, the scanner does not detect overlapped documents automatically. (*2)(*3)

    *1:

Overlap patterns can be memorized for up to 32 sheets (up to four overlap patterns can be memorized per sheet).

Once overlap patterns have been memorized for 32 sheets, the memorized patterns will be overwritten by any newly detected patterns starting from the first sheet that was memorized.

However, when turning the scanner off and on, the number of memorized overlap patterns depends on the setting for [Remember overlap patterns at power-off] in the Software Operation Panel.

For details, refer to Setting to Ignore Certain Overlap Patterns [Intelligent Multifeed Function].

    HINT

If you want the scanner to memorize five or more overlap patterns for a document, scan the documents once for the scanner to memorize the overlap patterns, then scan the documents again for the scanner to memorize new overlap patterns so that the newly memorized overlap patterns will not be detected as overlapping from the next scan.

    *2:

The memorized overlap patterns can be erased by holding down the [Function] button for five seconds or more while the function number flashes or they can be erased in the Software Operation Panel.

After erasing is completed, the Function Number Display shows Icon.

This allows you to erase overlap patterns that were not supposed to be memorized.

Be careful with this operation because all memorized overlap patterns will be erased.

    *3:

Only one overlap pattern can be memorized in this operation mode.
